Rustic Cotto

Terracotta looks have an ageless appeal. In the world of ceramics this look is the one that started them all.

Our wholesome and reliable Rustic Cotto shares the earthy good looks of traditional terracotta tiles; but delivers much more besides. Let’s start with the color and the patina. Rustic Cotto has a variegated, burnt sienna background animated by subtle color variation, achieving an utterly authentic sun-dried clay vibe. The rich rust-hued glaze also features realistic signs of wear and tear, recalling the sun-drenched patios and characterful entryways of Tuscany.

One glance at our Rustic Cotto and it is easy to see why the terracotta look has come back so strongly in the past few years, across both indoor and outdoor spaces. Today terracotta coverings are being used to adorn both walls and floors and are increasingly finding favor as mosaic accents.

Although it looks artisanal and authentic, our Rustic Cotto is actually an advanced porcelain tile with a technical performance to match. Unlike traditional terracotta tiles — that can be hard to lay, are absorbent, and require regular sealing — our Rustic Cotto is impervious, hard wearing and low maintenance. It will not stain, due to its ultra low porosity, and it is also 100% frost-resistant, allowing it to be used externally in even the harshest US climate. The matte sheen and gently ridged texture add even more authenticity, and make Rustic Cotto even easier to clean.

Classic, cozy, and charming, our Rustic Cotto works well with patterned rugs, natural flooring coverings like seagrass or coir, and with heavily saturated rich pastel paints. It can complement modernist steel and leather furniture from Denmark, or softer woven upholstery, equally well. This timeless tile is perhaps one of the most versatile of all our designs.
